Palmiro Togliatti and Nilde Iotti they will be protagonists of Finarte’s Contemporary Art Week, a week dedicated to modern art. The historic exponents of the PCI, one secretary until his death in 1964 and the other, his partner and first president of the Chamber, in addition to sharing a passion for politics, were also art admirers. In their private collection several paintings by Renato Gattuso appear which will be sold at auction on December 3rd.
Gattuso’s link with Togliatti is also demonstrated in the famous painting now exhibited in MamBO in Bolog, “The funeral of Togliatti”, in which the artist portrayed the procession that took part in the funeral of the secretary of the PCI in Rome in 1964. The painting depicts many exponents of the international communist movement such as Lenin, Stalin, Picasso, Neruda, Angela Davis, Jean-Paul Sartre, and others.
The three-day sale will open on December 2ndInternational Graphics and Author’s Multiplesand with 400 lots among which they appearAlberto Burri, Henri Matisse, Alberto Giacometti, Piero Dorazio, Mario Schifanoand many others. The protagonists of the Modern and Contemporary Art auction on 3 December will be 100 selected works which include some big names on the international scene such asMax Ernst, Marino Marini, Otto Wols, Alberto Savinio, Arnaldo Tomato and Andy Warhol.
