FBI: Guardsman wounded near White House in critical condition

Two National Guard members who were shot Wednesday near the White House are in critical condition, the FBI announced, after the governor of West Virginia said earlier that they had succumbed to their injuries.

Due to the attack on members of the National Guard, the strictest security measures have been implemented in the White House, while President Donald Trump is in Florida.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey said earlier in a post on X that both žvictims were members of the National Guard and died of their injuries. But soon he published another statement in which he cited “contradictory reports” about their condition.

A Trump administration official said he was attacking her. transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. The motive of the attack is not yet known.

Trump is at his Palm Beach resort for Thanksgiving, while Vice President JD Vance is in Kentucky.

On social media, Trump called the suspect “an animal” who will “pay a very high price.”

National Guard troops have been in Washington since August, when Trump deployed them to the streets as part of his controversial crackdown on immigration and crime targeting Democratic-led cities.

The head of the Pentagon announced after the incident on Wednesday that an additional 500 soldiers would be deployed in Washington.

“This only strengthens our determination to make Washington a safe place,” said Pete Hegseth, who is currently visiting the Dominican Republic.

This new deployment will increase the number of National Guard troops stationed in the city to more than 2,500.
