Jimmy Cliff also worked as an actor
The reggae and soul legend is best known for songs like “Many Rivers To Cross,” “The Harder They Come,” “You Can Get It If You Really Want” and his version of Johnny Nash’s “I Can See Clearly Now,” which appeared on the 1993 soundtrack to “Cool Runnings.”
Jimmy Cliff was born James Chambers on July 30, 1944. The singer and multi-instrumentalist also worked as an actor. He appeared in several films, including the 1972 classic “The Harder They Come,” which made reggae more popular worldwide.
Many fans paid tribute to the late singer on social media, including Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness. He wrote that Cliff was “a true cultural giant whose music has carried the heart of our nation to the world.”
