The Royal Theater has received the National Tourism Award 2025 in the category of Internationalization in recognition of “the exceptional projection of the Teatro Real as a cultural ambassador of Spain in the world highlighting its ability to attract international audiences and position Madrid as a reference destination for top-quality cultural tourism.”
The decision of the jury of these awards, which celebrate their first edition this year, has valued “the consolidation of the prestige of the Teatro Real among the great opera houses of the world, generating a first-rate tourist and cultural impact“, as the institution has announced.
The jury adds that its artistic excellence, its programming, the co-productions with the main opera theaters in the world and its ability to attract great figures and reference productions “have turned this institution into a fundamental driver of cultural tourism in Madrid and Spain.
“Thousands of visitors from all over the world schedule their trips to Madrid to enjoy the Teatro Real seasons, contributing significantly to the positioning of Spain as a top-level cultural destination.“, highlights the jury, which emphasizes that “the Teatro Real has known how to combine artistic excellence with a strategic vision of international projection, establishing alliances with world-renowned cultural institutions and consolidating a program that places Madrid on the circuit of the great opera capitals.”
For this reason, he considers that “this work has strengthened the Spain brand and has demonstrated how the culture of excellence can be a powerful vector of tourist attraction and international prestige” since “due to its decisive contribution to the internationalization of Spanish cultural tourism, its ability to attract high-value visitors and its role as a world reference for operatic excellence, the Teatro Real represents in an exemplary way the values that this award aims to recognize.“.
On November 13, the Teatro Real received the International Opera Award for Sustainability in recognition of the actions to improve energy efficiency carried out on the roof and inside of its building, as well as for its commitment and continued effort, over recent years, to reduce its carbon footprint.
