Ex-Paraná Clube is hero of Nacional’s title in the Uruguayan Championship

The attacker Christian Mercy passing through Paraná Club in 2021, he was the great hero of Nacional’s title in the Uruguayan Championship, last Sunday (30). The 27-year-old Nigerian came off the bench and scored the winning goal in the 1-0 derby against Peñarol.

Ebere entered the field in extra time and found the net nine minutes into the second half. In the first game, the striker also stood out with assists in Nacional’s two goals in the 2-2 draw.

“I’m very happy, super happy. It was the rematch I wanted, we are Uruguayan champions”, says the striker, who was in the Nacional squad that lost the title to Peñarol last year”.

“[Título] It means many things, I’m happy and enjoying with my teammates. I was moved by the goal, it was something I had been waiting for a long time and it happened at the perfect time”, adds Ebere.

This was Nacional’s 50th title in the Uruguayan Championship. Rival Peñarol, with 52, is still the competition’s biggest winner. Both teams are classified for the next Libertadores.

In 2021, Ebere wore the Paraná Clube shirt for just three months, during Series C of the Brazilian Championship. The striker played 14 matches with the Paranista shirt, nine of which as a starter, and scored three goals.

However, the striker’s performance was not enough to prevent Tricolor from falling to Series D.
