In the zoo of the Brazilian city of João Pessoa, a lioness mauled to death a 19-year-old boy who entered her enclosure.
According to CNN Brasil, the young man climbed over a wall more than six meters high and, as soon as he was in the enclosure, was attacked. He died from his injuries.
According to media reports, 19-year-old Gerson de Melo Machado suffered from a mental disorder and often violated public order. Among other versions of what happened, the police are considering a version of possible suicide.
The zoo is temporarily closed to the public. The authorities expressed condolences to the relatives of the deceased man, but said that the lioness was not to blame for the incident and she would not be euthanized.
