Sometimes silence makes more noise than a thunderous roar. There death of the first great Italian tennis player, Nicola Pietrangelii of this sport and athlete symbol of an ancient, elegant, almost refined sport, who came before the hi-tech racket-equipped bombers, impressed everyone. He was 92 years old and had been stuck in bed for a while. He didn’t go to the most important appointment of tennis italiano (in Italia), le ATP Finals in Turin. And this was an unmistakable signal.
They all expressed thecondolencesfor his disappearance. All, except one (or two),Jannik Sinner. His silence is being read today in many ways by many enthusiasts. Those who are ill-thinking and write that Jannik does not say his final farewell to ‘Nik the terrible’ because in recent years he has always criticized him for his choices not to go to Davis, to the Olympics or because “when I was there tennis was another sport and there was no one like me in Italy”… Who instead thinks that Sinner is a bit opinionated and doesn’t consider anyone to be at his level, especially someone who always said he was the best tennis player Italian, even in the face of the successes of the South Tyrolean.
Sinner, a company without the Communication sector
In reality, we probably need to do an exercise in realism and consider things as they are:Sinner, the multi-million dollar Sinner company, is international. It only has Italian origins (for a few kilometres, moreover) but little else. The management is foreign, apart from the coach Simone Vagnozzi and a few others. And it certainly doesn’t shine in terms ofcommunication. The rejection of the Davis Cupcommunicated a few hours before the start of the tournament without making excuses (as was done at the Paris Olympic Games) is proof of this. Imagine if someone thought it appropriate to make a simple post on social media, perhaps with an emoticon and the words “RIP”. Easy stuff, but it’s not in the ropes of theSinner team, focused only on tennissul marketingon athletic preparation, on the perfect machine that is Jannik.
Jannik’s silence from the Maldives
As for him, the ‘master of masters’ in 2025, he doesn’t really think about following the events of the world (let alone little Italy) from his ‘buen retiro’ toMaldives with beautiful girlfriend Laila Hasanovic. As is known, immediately after the end of the season he left to spend a week in un resort col father Hanspeter, then the flight to the Maldives (‘escape’ revealed by his colleague Sacha Zverev who was coincidentally with him on the plane). Just after the triumph of the Azzurri in theDavis Cupthe champion from San Candido had shared an image of Cobolli, Berrettini and the other Azzurri on his social account. This time though, at news of Pietrangeli’s disappearancehis profile remainedsilently. It seems he turned off his phone (but does Jannik have a phone?). Possible, but the others in the company, the managersvarious, they should instead be vigilant.
24 HOURS AFTER PIETRANGELI’S DISAPPEARANCE, THE LAST POST REMAINS ON THE ATP FINALS
A special year with highs and lows, but full of gratitude for the people around me. Couldn’t do it without this team. One of the best weeks of the year, thank you for the support and all the hard work. Time for a little break now. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/iDwDzGYUNu

Empathy, public image and the comparison with Alcaraz
Also because winners are always a bit unpleasant (unless they are universally admired like Roger Federer) and everything should be done to make them more lovable. It doesn’t take much, what it takes… said an ancient adage from a TV commercial. We would never want that despite his triumphs and his always identical dedications to the Italian fans “because Italy is the country I love”, perhaps in the end the feeling of antipathy prevails. On this he should learn from his (unique) opponent,Carlos AlcarazCarlitos, loved everywhere for his engaging laugh and his sincerity (true or apparent, who knows?). Certainly human. Being an alien, a robot, helps Sinner winmore or less always, but on the aspect ofempathywho has to work a lot. Maybe he could spend a few pennies of his immense fortune on acommunication agency that takes care of its image. It’s not your priority, but it’s an important aspect you should consider. In the meantime, we’re still waiting your regards to Nicola Pietrangeli.
