‘El Prado by night’ returns this Saturday with the first nighttime opening by Mengs and Juan Muñoz

The Prado Museum with the collaboration of Samsung, will open this Saturday, December 6, Constitution Dayits doors from 8 to 11:30 p.m. in a new edition of ‘El Prado at night’.

On this occasion, the art gallery will allow the public to access the recently inaugurated exhibitions ‘Antonio Rafael Mengs (1728-1779)’with the exclusive sponsorship of the BBVA Foundation, and ‘Juan Muñoz. Art Stories’ with the collaboration of the Madrid City Council.

Mengs was a key figure in the birth of Neoclassicism and one of the most influential artists of the 18th century. The exhibition offers, through almost 160 pieces, an in-depth review of his work, thought and legacy, in dialogue with the great masters of the past.

For its part, Juan Muñoz was one of the most unique sculptors of contemporary art, The exhibition brings together installations, sculptures, personal books, cabinets with small figures, drawings and engravings that reveal the deep connection that the artist maintained with painters such as Velázquez and Goya, and with the traditions of the Renaissance, Mannerism and the Baroque.

The first floor of the Villanueva building will also remain open, in whose Central Gallery the work of Juan Muñoz coexists with ‘Charles V at Mühlberg’ de Titian or ‘The three graces’ the Rubens.
