The presentation of the new calendar and the scudetto of the Fiamme Gialle sports groups in the Coni Hall of Honour. The ceremony dedicated a particularly intense moment to the memory of Matteo Franzoso a young athlete who passed away last September in Chile after a training accident.
With an emotional voice mother Olga present with the son Michele, he recalled how “Matteo was already swimming before learning to walk, but at nine he knew how to ski, he loved them, but as he grew up he also practiced many other sports. In the end he chose skiing which had always been part of his life, it was the air he breathed. He was very good and with excellent results, so we decided to move to the mountains. He was very happy when he joined the Guardia di Finanza group, then this terrible thing happened and he is no longer here, all this shouldn’t have happened happen. We are in an increasingly dark nightmare. And this is where we see the importance of friends, family and the Fiame Gialle. Without you I don’t know what would have happened to us.”
The four were also the protagonists of the day rowing champions of the 4 sculls, Luca Chiumento, Luca Rambaldi, Andrea Panizza and Giacomo Gentili, awarded as ‘athletes of the year’ after winning the world title in Shanghai. The president of CONI Luciano Buonfiglio reiterated the educational value of sport: “We are condemned to win, because to make people talk about us it is necessary to be protagonists, with medals and with the initiatives of daily activity”.
The president of Parliamentary commission on feminicide, Martina Semenzato, recalled the importance of overcoming stereotypes: “We must not be afraid. Working together means overcoming gender barriers and the idea that this sport is a male sport. We have started the project We put our faces and not our hands, from our ‘land of dreams’ towards the Olympics, with sporting and artistic plans dedicated to the youngest. The message against gender violence must be continuous and I thank the Fiamme Gialle who carry this message”.
The commander of the Fiamme Gialle Sports Center, General Antonio Appellahighlighted the institutional role of the structure: “The value area of the organization is projected towards innovation, the mobilization of human resources and mutual help. The Castelporziano sports center has a further plus value: from this year it has returned to the complete availability of the Fiamme Gialle. We work for excellent sport and youth activities aimed at social issues, inclusion and legality”.
