Mixed trend in Europe; Softbank shares jumped by more than 6%

The mixed trend in Europe continues. The Dax index rises by about 0.4%, the Potsi falls by about 0.1% and the KAC adds to its value by about 0.2%.

In the commodity market, oil prices are now climbing by about 1.5%, amid the shuffling of talks to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Talks that took place yesterday between Putin and his men and an American delegation, led by Steve Witkoff, failed to lead to a breakthrough. The price of a barrel of American oil currently stands at about $59.6, while the price of a barrel of Brent oil stands at about $63.4.

Inditex the parent company of clothing company Zara, jumps about 7% on the Madrid stock market, after posting strong financial results for the third quarter of 2025, with a 10.6% growth in currency-adjusted sales between November 1 and December 1, compared to the same period last year.

Asia

In Asia, trading this morning is in a mixed trend. The Nikkei rose by about 1.1%, the Hang Seng fell by about 1.2%, the Shanghai Stock Exchange fell by about 0.5% and the Kospi jumped by about 1%. The shares of the Japanese investment giant Softbank jumped by more than 6%, after three consecutive days of declines. The chips stocks in Japan, such as Tokyo Electron, Lasertech, Ransas Electronics and Adventest, also recorded gains of between 5%-7%.

Wall Street

Last night on Wall Street, the leading indices closed in gains: the Dow Jones index rose by about 0.4%, the S&P 500 rose by about 0.3% and the Nasdaq climbed by about 0.6%. This, after the first trading day of December (Monday) ended in price drops. At the same time, Bitcoin jumped by more than 5%, and this morning continues to rise and is trading around $93,000.

Database company stock Mongo DB jumped by a sharp rate of over 22%, after publishing its financial results for the third quarter, which significantly beat the forecasts. The company presented strong revenue growth and provided an optimistic outlook going forward, which is seen as a positive sign for the entire enterprise software and AI sector.

stock Intel jumped by about 8%, after Ming Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International analyst company, announced on the X social network that the company is expected to start building chips for Apple for its MacBook and iPad Pro products starting in 2027.

More in the field of chips, a stock Marvel jumped about 10% in late trading on Wall Street, after its financial results for the third quarter beat analysts’ forecasts. The company also presented an optimistic forecast for the future and stated that it estimates that its revenues from data centers will grow by 25% in the next fiscal year. In addition, the company announced that it will acquire chip startup Celestial AI, for at least $3.25 billion in cash and stock.

Also the stock of the clothing company American Eagle Outfitters Jumped about 10% in late trading, after it published its financial results and raised its forecast for the full year 2025, noting that the holiday season started off on the right foot for it.

The commodity and currency markets

Globally, the dollar is expected to have a challenging period and it is expected to weaken against the major currencies. Mark Hafele, the chief investment officer of the capital management division of the Swiss investment bank UBS, believes that “although the dollar has already weakened significantly, we estimate that further devaluation will be recorded during the coming months. We maintain an attractive rating for the euro, the Australian dollar and the Norwegian krone.”

In the commodity sector, the price of oil traded slightly down towards 59 dollars per barrel. The analysts believe that there is a chance that oil will continue to weaken, against the background of the shuffling in the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

Macro

In the US, the ADP employment index is expected to be published later today. CNBC reports that the index is expected to reflect a relatively stable employment market and help the Federal Reserve formulate its policy ahead of next week’s interest rate decision. Meanwhile, expectations for a quarter percent interest rate cut are only increasing, as the probability that the markets are pricing in a cut has risen to about 89%.

Is silver coming back and becoming the popular metal for investors? Swiss bank economists Julius Baer present a complex picture. The price of silver, the bank says, “is known for sharp and rapid price fluctuations, but this year marks a particularly unusual year. Since the beginning of November, the price of silver has risen by more than 20%, and it is possible that its price will double this year – for the first time since 1979.”

In the bank, we marked two factors that reignited the rally. “Firstly, the addition of silver to the US essential minerals list, and secondly, increased expectations for further interest rate cuts in the US.
