Yle set conditions for participation in Eurovision, Israel’s position was still not heard

Yleisradio the management team has made an outline of the conditions under which Yle will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in the future. Instead, Yle still did not comment on whether Finland will participate in next year’s visas in the event that Israel also participates.

According to the press release, Yle will decide on participating in Eurovision after the European Broadcasting Union Ebu’s meeting to be held today and the “discussion and voting result” held there. At the Ebu meeting, the rule changes will be voted on.

Changes are limiting the number of votes given by an individual voter and bring expert councils to the semi-finals. Expert groups are grown with young members, and campaigns by external parties to support artists are prohibited.

In general conditions participation is that Ebu implements the proposed changes to the rules and that they are followed. In addition, security must be taken care of, a wide range of countries must participate in the visas, and the costs must not rise too much.

Yleisradion’s position on the impact of Israel’s participation on Finland’s participation has been expected for some time. An already planned Ebu member vote on the issue was canceled earlier. The discussion about the future of Eurovision and the voting has continued this year.
