The sale of Christmas roses by the KLJ girls in Eigenbilzen is a tradition that has brought warmth to the village center for years. “People are really looking forward to our tour,” smiles leader Rani Van Elslande (21). “Many living rooms always have a KLJ rose on display at Christmas.”
The girls went in groups from door to door with well-filled carts. “The people are always super friendly,” says Georgia (11). Her peer Maysae adds: “We have five colors, but the white and red Christmas roses sell best.”
The efforts of the girls are great. “Everyone gives their best to make the sale successful,” says Rani. “We always start in Eigenbilzen and then we go to Hoelbeek.”
The proceeds from the Christmas roses sold give the youth movement a strong financial boost. “The money will go to our summer camp next year. In addition, renovations are also needed, including the heating in our classrooms.”
