Netflix buys HBO and Warner Bros. for $72 billion

American streaming service Netflix announces that it will buy Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) in a billion-dollar deal.

The market value of the deal is 72 billion dollars, tells Bloomberg.

The deal also includes the film and television studios HBO Max and HBO owned by WBD.

With the sale, for example, cult series The Sopranos and Game of Thrones will move to Netflix’s “extensive portfolio”, the streaming service says in a press release published on Friday.

According to a source interviewed by Reuters on Thursday, the deal would change the media landscape if it is implemented. The deal sought by streaming giant Netflix is ​​expected to reduce consumers’ streaming costs if Netflix and HBO Max were to merge.

Reuters reported earlier on Thursday that Netflix became the top candidate for WBD’s buyer. Bloomberg News according to Netflix has offered a $5 billion breach of contract payment if regulators block the deal.

Entertainment media Variety on the other hand, previously said that the possible realization of the deal has put a number of film industry leaders on alert. They have urged Congress to intervene if Netflix’s offer is accepted. According to Variety, the merger of Netflix and WBD would threaten to plunge the film business into a financial crisis.

WBD:n reportedly received substantial offers for HBO Max this week from Paramount and Comcast, among others, in addition to Netflix. At the end of November, the media group asked the buyer candidates in question to improve the offers they submitted, as the original offers did not please WBD.
