The European Commission, after almost two years, moves on X. The EU executive has adopted a non-compliance decision against the social network for violation of the transparency obligations established by the Digital Services Act (DSA), imposing a fine of 120 million euros.
The violations include the blue tick’s “deceptive” graphics, lack of transparency of its advertising archive, and lack of access to public data for researchers. The proceeding began on December 18, 2023 and aimed to ascertain whether
The Commission also approved commitments from TikTok, controlled by China’s ByteDance, to adopt solutions that ensure full transparency regarding advertisements on its services, as required by the Digital Services Act (DSA). After discussions with the EU executive, TikTok presented binding commitments that “address all concerns raised by the Commission” in its investigation and preliminary findings from May 2025. These commitments now ensure “full transparency” of TikTok’s ads.
