Aston Villa-Arsenal (2-1): the Gunners crack after added time and see their lead melt away

Bad deal for Arsenal in the Premier League. The Gunners lost on the Aston Villa pitch (2-1) by conceding a goal from Emiliano Buendia, with a powerful strike in the area, a few seconds before the final whistle (90th + 5).

Beaten for the second of the season, Arsenal sees their opponent of the day come back to three points, while Manchester City can move up to second place, two points behind the leader in the event of a victory against Sunderland this Saturday.

Arsenal less solid defensively

Renowned for their defensive solidity this season, the Gunners had to deal without three of their central players: Gabriel, William Saliba and Cristhian Mosquera. And the London lock was blown before the break. On a cross from Pau Torres, extended by Jurrien Timber repositioned in the axis for the occasion, Matty Cash appeared at the far post to deceive David Raya between the legs (1-0, 36th).

At half-time, Mikel Arteta made two changes. Eberechi Eze and Mikel Merino gave way to Leandro Trossard and Viktor Gyökeres. And the Belgian quickly proved his coach right. Returning from the locker room, he followed a poorly returned cross from Bukayo Saka to deceive Emiliano Martinez at point blank range (1-1, 53rd).

But, during the second period, both teams pushed to turn the match around, and it was ultimately Villa who snatched victory with this goal which must leave the Gunners with many regrets.
