Almost all companies use AI, but only a third achieve real results, warns new report

88% of companies already use artificial intelligence, but only 32% manage to scale it beyond pilot projects, according to the global report “The State of AI in 2025” by McKinsey & Company. Although its adoption is widespread, only 39% report a positive impact on their profits.

The study, based on surveys of 2,000 leaders from 105 countries, indicates that AI agents are driving a new wave of business use: 62% of organizations are already experimenting with them, although no function exceeds 10% implementation at scale.

The most advanced sectors in AI agents are technology, telecommunications, insurance and health, while the areas with the greatest deployment are IT, software engineering and knowledge management.

The report also anticipates employment effects: 32% of companies plan to reduce their workforce in 2026, while the demand for specialized profiles such as data engineers, machine learning engineers and MLOps experts grows.

The expansion of AI comes with more risks: 51% of organizations reported incidents in the last year, mainly due to model inaccuracy, privacy and intellectual property. Explainability remains one of the most difficult risks to mitigate.
