Ukraine: Emmanuel Macron will travel to London on Monday for a meeting with Zelensky, Starmer and Merz

New meeting between the French and Ukrainian presidents. Emmanuel Macron will travel to London on Monday alongside Volodymyr Zelensky, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. This meeting will allow us to “take stock together of the situation and the ongoing negotiations within the framework of American mediation,” the President of the Republic wrote on his X account on Saturday.

“We must continue to put pressure on Russia to force it to peace,” wrote Emmanuel Macron, condemning “with the greatest firmness” the new strikes which targeted Ukraine and reiterating his “unwavering support” for kyiv.

The announcement comes as peace talks to end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict continue between kyiv and Washington. Ukrainian and American negotiators are meeting this Saturday, December 6 in Florida for their third day of discussions around the plan proposed by the United States.

EU excluded from negotiations

The European Union, largely absent from these negotiations to which it was not invited, once again warned on Saturday against a process perceived in Brussels as favorable to Vladimir Putin.

“Imposing restrictions and constraints on Ukraine will not bring us lasting peace,” declared the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas. “If aggression is rewarded, it will happen again, not only in Ukraine or Gaza, but all over the world,” she added.

Since the presentation of the American plan almost three weeks ago, several sessions of talks have taken place with the Ukrainians in Geneva and Florida to try to amend the text in favor of kyiv. The document was also presented to President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday during a visit to Moscow by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Few details have filtered out on this amended plan, after an initial version was perceived by kyiv and the Europeans as being largely favorable to Russia.
