Asked about the conviction of Gérard Depardieu to eighteen months in prison for sexual assault, for which the actor appealed, and about his upcoming trial for rape of the actress Charlotte Arnould, Carole Bouquet estimated that her former companion was “incapable of physically attacking a woman”.

“Gérard is capable of phenomenal verbal crudeness and also incredible poetry. There are both at the same time. I often told him that during the war he would have been resistant and a collaborator, that irritated him,” she declared this Saturday on RTL, before adding: “I really think he is incapable of physically attacking a woman. »

The first accusations against Gérard Depardieu emerged following the #MeToo movement, which denounced inappropriate behavior, sexual assault and rape in the cinema industry.

If she says “feminist”, Carole Bouquet believes that “there is something much too excessive now”. “Between men and women, now, we don’t know what to say to each other. When we have to make a film, we have five hours of lessons to know how to behave, I don’t need that,” she explained on RTL.

“It is perhaps necessary and I know that it is very very recent, basically, our emancipation, after centuries during which we were looked at like madonnas or witches… So I understand”, she on the other hand qualified.

Asked about her signing of the column in support of Gérard Depardieu published in Le Figaro in 2023, Carole Bouquet deplored a “phenomenal misunderstanding”.
