After a magnitude 7.6 earthquake, a tsunami of up to 3 m is approaching northern Japan

The areas most at risk are the coastal areas of Aomori, Iwate and Hokkaido prefectures in the north and northeast of the country. For low-lying areas of the coast, waves are expected to reach land and possible flooding of coastal infrastructure.

Residents of coastal zones are advised to leave areas located near the water and go to higher ground or to the upper floors of permanent buildings.
