Mr. Zelensky held talks with three European leaders about the Ukraine conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today went to the British leader’s residence at 10 Downing Street, London to meet his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Starmer emphasized the need for a fair and lasting peaceful solution for Ukraine. In response, Mr. Zelensky thanked the British Prime Minister for organizing the meeting, adding that this was an important time to discuss all sensitive issues related to the war in Ukraine.

Mr. Zelensky emphasized the importance of solidarity between Europe, Ukraine and the US, saying there are things “we cannot handle without Americans and Europeans”.

The French President emphasized that “we all support Ukraine and peace”. He said “we have a lot of cards in our hands”, adding that Russia’s economy is weakening. He also spoke about the need to find ways to bring Europe and America closer together to agree on the path forward.

“These could be decisive days for all of us regarding Ukraine,” the German Chancellor said.

He said Germany and other countries always strongly support Ukraine because “this country’s destiny is the destiny of Europe”. He also expressed skepticism about some details in the new US peace proposal, saying those were also things he wanted to discuss with European leaders.

President Macron said the meeting of the four leaders in London was to find common ground between US, European and Ukrainian allies on a possible peace agreement to end the conflict. After that, all parties can move on to the “new phase”, which aims to ensure the best possible conditions for Ukraine, for Europe and for collective security.

After the leaders held a closed-door meeting, President Zelensky posted a photo of four people at 10 Downing Street, with the caption: “Ensuring real security is always a challenge and a joint effort. Thank you for your support.”

The content of the talks is unclear, but a source at the Elysee Palace told reporters that the meeting “allows to continue joint work” between the parties on the peace plan proposed by the US, as well as on what Europe can bring to the negotiating table, especially security guarantees and proposals to rebuild post-conflict Ukraine.
