TasteAtlas ranked Iced Milk Coffee, Iced Black Coffee, and Vietnamese Egg Coffee highly

In the list of 62 typical regional drinks updated on November 13, Vietnamese iced milk coffee ranked third. The culinary website describes this as a combination of dark roasted coffee, condensed milk and ice. Traditional preparation often uses Robusta beans and aluminum filters, creating a balanced flavor between bitterness, sweetness and fat. Currently, many stores use machine-brewed coffee (espresso) combined with condensed milk to shorten the time.

Taste Atlas is likened to a world culinary map, specializing in statistics and rankings of traditional dishes based on expert reviews and millions of global readers.

Vietnam’s black coffee ranked 6th. Although it is a popular drink in the world, the culinary website believes that Vietnam’s coffee beans and roasting method create its own identity. Vietnam is currently the world’s largest robusta exporter. This type of seed has a strong bitter taste, little acidity, long aftertaste, and is often thoroughly roasted. Some places mix butter, sugar, cocoa or vanilla flavors. For many Vietnamese people, iced black coffee without sugar is a familiar choice.

Egg coffee, a specialty of Hanoi, also appears in the top 10. This drink combines hot coffee with cream from whipped egg yolks and condensed milk. Egg coffee was born in the 1950s and is still one of the capital’s most popular dishes.

In addition to the above three dishes, many other Vietnamese drinks are also ranked highly such as lotus tea (12th place), iced yogurt (23rd), meo cider (26th), can wine (29th), and black sticky rice wine (31st). Some modern variations such as salted coffee and coconut milk coffee also appear on the list.

Leading the rankings is Thai red milk tea, followed by Malaysian Ipoh white coffee.

In recent years, Vietnamese coffee has been continuously mentioned by international media. In 2023, Taste Atlas ranked Vietnamese iced milk coffee No. 2 in the top 10 most highly rated coffee drinks in the world. Before that, CNN Posted the article “Why the world is waking up to Vietnamese coffee”, talking about the rise of Vietnamese coffee culture in the international market. 2022, Canadian travel magazine The Travel ranked Vietnam at the top of the list of countries with the best coffee in the world.

In the February 2023 ranking of Taste Atlas, Vietnamese iced milk coffee ranked with Italian ristretto in the top position of the list of the 10 best coffees in the world.

Coffee was brought to Vietnam by the French in 1857. After a trial period in the North, coffee plants thrived in the Central Highlands, especially Dak Lak, thanks to climate and soil conditions suitable for the Robusta variety. Currently, the coffee area in the country is about 680,000 hectares, one of the main industrial crops.

According to agricultural industry data, cumulatively until mid-November 2025, Vietnam exported nearly 1.35 million tons of coffee, with a turnover of 7.64 billion USD, an increase of 14.6% in volume and 62.3% in value compared to the same period last year.

From an imported drink, Vietnamese coffee gradually formed its own style, associated with filters, ice, condensed milk and creative variations, becoming a part of urban life and the image of Vietnamese cuisine on the world map.
