The Finnish company Remedy revealed its new game, in which the share of Finnishness decreases

Finnish game company Remedy has revealed its next game at The Game Awards gala held in Los Angeles. The gala was organized the night before Friday Finnish time.

The now revealed game has been long awaited Control 2 eli Control Resonant – action role-playing game. The first trailer for the game, which will be released next year, was seen at the gala.

“We are stepping into a new area. Our storytelling and world-building abilities can serve in a way that allows more freedom for the player,” said the director Mikael Kasurinen for HS before the gala.

Kasurinen describes Control Resonantin to be a big change for the studio. This is the first action RPG from Remedy.

Characteristic features of the genre include, in addition to fighting, character development, conversations and exploration of the environment.

Story takes place seven years Control– action adventure (2019) and takes the events to New York to the streets of Manhattan. The main character is the brother of the female agent of the first part.

According to Kasurinen, it is not a direct sequel, but the games can be played in the desired order and they support each other.

“There are still subtle elements in the game that convey Finnishness, but it comes more through world building.”

Kasurinen can see Control Resonantin as cultural development for the studio. According to him, the player “affects how the story is told”.

According to Kasurinen, the most challenging thing is to build things that don’t exist yet, but it’s rewarding to do it together with the team. Remedy’s strength is finding its own solutions for game design.

“Thus, we stand out from the others in an original and positive way, which is necessary in today’s gaming market,” says Mikael Kasurinen.

The trailer conveys a surreal atmosphere. From technically strong series, such as Alan Wake and Max Paynethe well-known Remedy seems to be raising the bar with its graphic expertise.

When Remedy was last featured at The Game Awards in 2023, it flopped Alan Wake 2:lla awards for best direction, storytelling and picture design. The Espoo studio had made their best game, and the world was open.

American film studio Annapurna Pictures is financing Control Resonantia. According to Puha, the production has been “held by Remedy for a long time”. Annapurna will discuss, among other things, marketing and publishing strategy.

Control Resonant is a game published by Remedy itself. Doing it worldwide is “an extremely challenging operation with a small team”.
