Zelensky highlights that “results on the front” are “crucial” for Ukraine in peace negotiations

The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, highlighted this Friday from the city of Kupiansk, in the province of Kharkiv, from where he stressed that “achieving results on the front line is crucial so that results can be achieved in diplomacy”, in the midst of contacts to try to close a peace agreement with Russia.

“This is exactly how it works: all our strong positions within the country translate into strong positions in the negotiations to end the war,” he explained from Kupiansk, according to a message posted on his account on the social network Facebook.

Zelensky has stressed that he has met with the “warriors” deployed in the area. “The Russians continue to talk about Kupiansk, but the reality speaks for itself. I have visited our troops and congratulated them,” he said, before thanking “each of the warriors.”

“I thank each of the units, all those who fight here, all those who are destroying the occupier,” the president stressed. “I am proud of all of you. I also thank all our Ground Forces,” Zelensky concluded.

Kharkiv is one of the provinces partially occupied by Russia following the invasion unleashed in February 2022 by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin, with Kupiansk as one of Moscow’s main forces in the area, going so far as to announce the capture of the city on November 20.

Russia has made progress over the past few months in Ukraine, with the epicenter of progress in Donetsk. In September 2022, Moscow annexed the partially occupied provinces of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, while it has also managed to penetrate Kharkiv, Sumi and Dnipropetrovsk, in addition to annexing the Crimean peninsula in 2014.
