A woman found guilty of murdering her four-year-old stepdaughter has been executed in northwestern Iran’s Azerbaijan province. This was reported by Iranian media with reference to the justice authorities of the Islamic Republic.
According to the court, the girl died from brain damage caused by severe injuries inflicted on her by her stepmother. The woman was sentenced to death under the qisas law, which allows the victim’s family to demand execution for murder, AFP noted.
The execution verdict was approved by the Supreme Court of Iran, after which the sentence was carried out in one of the prisons in the province of Azerbaijan.
