Aituri talks about one of the turning points in his career on Instagram.

Hurdling star Reetta Hurske tells about the turning point on Instagram, after which he reached the best achievement of his career.

Hurske was at Oregon’s World Cup preparation camp in the United States in July 2022 when he learned of his grandfather’s death.

“I cried, but quietly. I didn’t want my roommate to wake up, although in hindsight I know it wouldn’t have really bothered him. Probably the opposite. And I don’t know if he knows about this event to this day,” writes Hurske.

Hurske only told his coach about his troubles. He cleared the heats of the World Championships, but qualified in the semi-finals. In the end, the ranking was 23rd.

The athlete says that he ran poorly even though he was in good shape and tried his best.

“After running the intervals after the interview with Yle, I burst into tears. But, as you might expect, on the way to the press conference, I told the reason for crying was definitely disappointment and not the real reason.”

Hurske describes how the events triggered an identity crisis in him.

“I was in the yard for several months, and I wasn’t myself at all. So many emotions were building up inside me, which I had to deal with later, because the summer competition season was still in progress.”

Reetta Hurske would have been able to represent Finland at the World Cup in Tokyo 2025 as a substitute after Nooralotta Neziri was injured, but she did not accept the place.

When the season was finally in the package, Hurske stopped to think about what kind of life he wants to live as an athlete and outside the sports bubble.

Through introspection, he realized that those who enjoyed life had been forgotten. Fun, cheerfulness and sociability had to be rediscovered.

It was successful and the autumn exercises went smoothly. The athlete discovered Flow and developed.

The following winter, Hurske won gold in the 60-meter hurdles at the European Championships in Istanbul.

“I celebrated this perhaps the greatest achievement of my sports career with friends who are important to me. In addition, until the morning.”

“The evening was filled with incredible memories, comments and events, but at the end of the day, the main thing was that everyone enjoyed life, the company of people and the moment!”

To Tampere Hurske, 30, representing Purintö, continues his career.

Marjukka Suihkon the coach’s main goal next summer is the 100-meter hurdles at the European Championships in Birmingham in August.
