FPT invests hundreds of millions of USD in AI and quantum research

On December 15, the FPT Strategic Technology Steering Committee was established with the goal of promoting the implementation of Resolution 57, with Chairman Truong Gia Binh as the head of the committee, General Director Nguyen Van Khoa as the standing deputy, and members of the group’s executive board.

Of the 5 fields FPT invests in, the first field is related to quantum technology and AI. The Group established the Quantum AI & Cyber ​​Security Research Institute (QACI) with Professor Dr. Ho Tu Bao as Scientific Director, Associate Professor Dr. Ngo Xuan Bach as Director of the Institute. QACI will focus on research and solution development as well as training PhDs, senior experts and international cooperation. This is considered one of the first quantum research centers established by a business. FPT said it will invest 100 million USD for the Institute.

In the UAV field, the company’s name is FPT UAV, with Mr. Vu Anh Tu, FPT Technology Director, holding the position of Director. Recently, the group has actively promoted the formation and development of the low-range economy in Vietnam by joining with technology, financial and aviation organizations to establish the Low-Level Economic Alliance with Mr. Khoa as Chairman; promoting cooperation between the Japan Unmanned Aviation Industry Promotion Association (JUIDA) and the Vietnam Aviation, Space and Drones Network (AUVS VN). The UAV sector has an estimated size of 10 billion USD by 2035.

FPT also established FPT Railway Mobility Technology to operate in the field of railway technology, run by Mr. Pham Minh Tuan, Deputy General Director of FPT. FPT Railway Mobility Technology is expected to inherit FPT’s experience in design, manufacturing, automotive software, semiconductors, and IoT, supporting the operation of large systems that operate continuously 24/7 in many industries requiring high safety such as aviation, energy, and oil and gas.

In the field of data, FPT DC5 is headed by Mr. Pham Duy Phuc. This unit aims to build a data platform with the criteria “correct – enough – clean – live”, bringing value and good experience.

In addition, FPT Cyber ​​Security was also born, operating in the field of network security, led by Mr. Pham Tung Duong, Information Security Director of FPT Software, as Director. The unit will focus on investing in research and forming a secure and autonomous cybersecurity ecosystem.

By delving into the above technologies, Mr. Truong Gia Binh said that FPT continues to fulfill its commitment to accompany the country with the goal of mastering technology and solving national problems together. He emphasized that intelligence and human resources will help Vietnam gain a sustainable competitive advantage. “There is no greater power than when Vietnamese intelligence is placed on the right mission,” he said.

Through Resolution 57, science and technology, innovation and digital transformation are identified as the most important breakthroughs, playing a central driving role in the process of innovating growth models and improving the competitiveness of the economy. This is not only a tool to promote productivity, quality and efficiency, but also a foundation for restructuring industries and fields, from manufacturing, services to state governance. On that basis, Vietnam aims to become a developing country with high middle income by 2030, and by 2045 to rise to the group of developed, high-income countries.

The fields that FPT is investing in and developing are all in the list of 11 strategic technology groups, issued by the Prime Minister in a decision in June this year. The Ministry of Science and Technology is also coordinating with ministries and agencies to complete the National Program to develop 11 strategic technology groups, clearly demonstrating the view of prioritizing mastering core technologies, reducing external dependence and creating long-term development space for the country.
