Brandenburg’s Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke is skeptical about a minority government. “It is always better to be able to rely on a democratic majority,” said the SPD politician to the “Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung” (MAZ). “A minority government means being open to blackmail on every single project,” he said. This is not only a laborious but also a very expensive process.
The four Brandenburg BSW state parliament members Jouleen Gruhn, Melanie Matzies, André von Ossowski and Reinhard Simon left the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance on November 11th. The reasons given were “authoritarian tendencies” and an increasing dominance of radicalized positions in the BSW. The move plunged the SPD/BSW coalition into a crisis.
Simon and Matzies rejoined the party after discussions, the other two say they want to stick with leaving. BSW country chief Friederike Benda called on Gruhn and von Ossowski to resign from their positions and doubted whether they supported the BSW positions. Both denied the allegations.
