A Ihud Atzalah doctor saved the life of a 20-year-old man who suffered a life-threatening allergic reaction after eating a Hanukkah donut.
The incident occurred in the Mahane Yehuda market area of Jerusalem. According to Dr. Nathan Unger, he was informed that the young man was allergic to dairy products. He was sure that the donut was “parve” – that is, it did not contain dairy, but this turned out not to be the case.
The victim suffered an acute allergic reaction that threatened his life, and only a timely injection of the required dose of adrenaline in parallel with the supply of oxygen and additional medications helped to avoid death.
Having stabilized the patient’s condition, he was evacuated to the hospital to continue treatment and examinations.
