Mediamarkt wants to grow strongly with a new Chinese owner

The Mediamarkt parent company Ceconomy wants with the new Chinese owner JD.com to significantly expand its online business in Europe and accelerate its growth path. The German electronics retailer wants to benefit above all from the logistics and delivery know-how of the Chinese, who can deliver any goods in China within 24 hours.

“Through the partnership, we have access to technologies, world-leading retail knowledge and supply chains that are unrivaled anywhere in the world,” emphasized Ceconomy boss Kai-Ulrich Desisner at the balance sheet press conference on Wednesday.

The takeover by JD.com is expected to be finalized in the first half of 2026 following approval from the antitrust authorities. JD.com has already secured a total stake of 85.2 percent in the Düsseldorf-based company. “The partnership will make us even stronger,” emphasized Deissner.
