After graduating from high school, Lasse Rusniok traveled through Central America for two years

AWhen the world stood still, Lasse Rusniok set off: In autumn 2020, between the first and second Corona lockdowns, the then 19-year-old high school graduate flew to Costa Rica. He only returned to his hometown of Wolfenbüttel two years later, on a sailing boat with which he crossed the Atlantic and then hitchhiked. This desire for the unknown was not something he was born with: he always went on camping holidays with his family in southern Germany or Austria, and he flew to Spain for a student exchange for the first time in his life. In this respect, Rusniok set off on his own without any significant previous experience into a part of the world that was difficult for him to assess. He called his self-published book “From Comfort to Uncertainty” in which he describes his adventure: Initially, Rusniok, 24, lived with a host family for six months. But even during this time he has already taken trips across the country where he was on his own. He then lived alone in the jungle of Costa Rica and traveled mostly on boats to Panama and Colombia. The story of his adventure is one about growing up, about daring to give up a sheltered life – and about not taking yourself so seriously.
