“Mercosur good agreement, definitive step on reciprocity is needed”

“Mercosur is a good agreement, but it can become excellent if after 25 years we manage to take a definitive step on reciprocity. What is imposed on our European producers, which in our opinion is correct, must also be guaranteed on the products that arrive. We believe that this step forward can be taken”. This was said today by the Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, on the sidelines of the National Export Conference on the internationalization of companies, underway in Milan.

A second element “is to try to heal what is a fracture within Europe which sees important nations, such as France, Poland, Austria, Ireland, currently opposed to Mercosur”. “We believe – underlined the minister – that we can instead recompose a framework that strengthens Europe”.

As Italy “we can pragmatically work on this: transforming a potential good agreement into an excellent agreement, which guarantees every production sector. Obviously as exporting countries we agree to be able to limit tariff and non-tariff barriers as much as possible, but the safeguarding and protection of citizens’ health is a fundamental element”.
