The country’s private initiative expressed its concern about possible road blockades of carriers, as they considered that not only are they “ineffective” measures to resolve demands, but they also affect mobility and the economy.

The National Association of Transporters (Antac), a social organization that brings together heavy vehicle operators, threatened to carry out new closures in different parts of the country, as they considered that their demands regarding road safety had not been met and accused security elements of alleged extortion.

The Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin) pointed out that the closure of communication routes “causes severe effects on the transportation of goods, interrupts supply chains, increases logistics costs and puts at risk the timely supply of essential goods,” in addition to harming thousands of citizens who find it impossible to travel to work centers, health services, schools or personal destinations.

He stressed that the effects have a direct impact on employment, competitiveness and the stability of economic activity, as well as on the well-being of the population in general.

Separately, the National Chamber of Cargo Transportation (Canacar) considered that the closures are not only “ineffective” in resolving demands, but also constitute a direct impact on society and the national economy.

The organization considered that the groups that carry out blockades must assume the economic, social and security consequences, such as logistical delays, million-dollar losses, shortages of essential goods and damage to productivity.

He stressed that reactivating the blockades is serious, because it coincides with the beginning of the December holidays, when there is a lot of mobility of people and goods throughout the country. “The paralysis of communication routes in this context will cause a scenario of general chaos.”
