The Duke of Marlborough is accused of three cases of strangulation

The Duke of Marlborough, Charles James Spencer-Churchill, great-nephew of the late British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a relative of Princess Diana in her own right, is at the center of an affair that is once again shaking the British royal house. The honorable duke is accused of no less than three cases of strangulation and is arrested by the police.

Spencer-Churchill, formerly known as Jamie Blandford, was arrested in May last year, and law enforcement officials have now confirmed that three charges have been filed against him. The 70-year-old duke is expected to appear this Thursday at the Oxford court and according to the indictment he is accused of committing offenses of intentional and non-fatal suffocation in the period between November 2022 and May 2024.

The three cases attributed to him allegedly occurred in Oxfordshire and were directed at the same person. Spencer-Churchill, known among his family members as Jamie, is the 12th Duke of Marlborough and a member of one of the most prominent aristocratic families in Britain.

He inherited the dukedom in 2014, after the death of his father, the 11th Duke of Marlborough. The historic family home is the 300-year-old Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, Churchill’s birthplace. However, the duke does not own the 18th-century palace and is not involved in its management or the management of the sprawling estate. The responsibility for the place rests with the Blenheim Palace Heritage Foundation, which owns and manages the site.

A spokeswoman on behalf of the foundation said: “The Blenheim Palace Heritage Foundation is aware that legal proceedings have been taken against the Duke of Marlborough. The foundation cannot relate to accusations relating to the Duke’s personal conduct and private life, and which are in active criminal proceedings. The foundation is not owned or managed by the Duke of Marlborough, but is managed by independent bodies subject to boards of trustees.”
