The seminar “Application of probiotics in spore form at pharmacies” attracted 1,200 pharmacists to follow directly in Ho Chi Minh City and 27 locations nationwide.
The conference took place in mid-October in Ho Chi Minh City, relayed at 27 locations across the country, part of the program series “CHC Pharmacist Academy 2025”, to improve professional capacity and practical consulting skills for pharmacists in pharmacies. The event was jointly organized by Opella Vietnam, UMP Science and Technology Center and Ho Chi Minh City Pharmacy Association.
The speakers took turns presenting presentations and in-depth research, responding to the topic “Application of spore probiotics at pharmacies: How to choose the right strain, right dose, right time?” of the organizing committee.
Opening the program, the seminar coordinator introduced that as life becomes more modern, digestive diseases become more common and complex. In particular, intestinal microflora disorders are the leading cause of diarrhea, flatulence, malabsorption and immunodeficiency. Faced with the above series of problems, the pharmacy is the first medical access point and the pharmacist plays a consulting role, helping people choose and guide the use of appropriate probiotics products.

In the first presentation, Dr. Vo Hong Minh Cong – Deputy Director of Gia Dinh People’s Hospital – brought the topic “Intestinal microflora disorders and the role of probiotics”. The speaker pointed out that protecting the intestinal microflora is the key to keeping the body healthy, because an imbalance can lead to digestive disorders and immunodeficiency.
Dr. Minh Cong also updated clinical evidence on the effectiveness of Bacillus clausii in treating diarrhea, supporting H.pylori elimination regimens, contributing to helping patients restore the state of their intestinal microflora.
Next, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Hoa – lecturer at the School of Pharmacy, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City – presented the topic “Common intestinal microbiological disorders in pharmacies and consulting support”. He emphasized knowledge about diarrhea, clarifying the role of pharmacists in the management of both acute and antibiotic-related diarrhea.
Also in the presentation, Dr. Quoc Hoa updated a series of studies on the multi-action mechanism and effectiveness of Bacillus clausii in supporting treatment. He cited patients using H.pylori eradication regimens; diarrhea in children caused by antibiotics; cases of acute diarrhea suspected to be caused by food… From this clinical case, pharmacists have more basis for application in practice at the pharmacy.
Meanwhile, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan – Director of the Center for Training Medical Personnel according to Social Needs at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Head of General Internal Medicine Department 2 Children’s Hospital 1 – presented the paper “Crying stomach syndrome in newborns and infants – The role of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp.lactis BB12”.
Dr. Tuan pointed out that the probiotic strain BB12 has been proven through many clinical studies to have the ability to help improve symptoms of colic in infants, by balancing the microflora and reducing inflammatory reactions in the intestinal tract.

After the training session, many pharmacists said that through a series of scientific analyzes and evidence, they clearly understood the role of spore probiotics in the treatment and prevention of intestinal disorders, while improving their counseling skills appropriate to each patient.
In addition to expertise, the program also introduces the probiotic strain Bifidobacterium animalis subsp.lactis BB-12, which supports intestinal microflora balance and improves colic in young children.
