Kampl’s future at RB is open

After the family bereavement, the future of midfielder Kevin Kampl at Bundesliga club RB Leipzig is completely open. The 35-year-old has not played for the club since last September. “Kevin can decide for himself how long he needs. What he plans to do together with the family. We have given him the time,” said coach Ole Werner on the sidelines of the game against Bayer Leverkusen on the TV channel Sky.

According to sports director Marcel Schäfer, “there are several options on the table”. But no decision has been made yet. “In the last few weeks we have had several open, very confidential, honest conversations with Kevin – about the really, very special circumstances and his family situation,” said Schäfer. “For us, the most important thing, and that’s what we’ve handled over the last few weeks, is the well-being of Kevin and his family.”

A few weeks ago, Kampl reported on the bereavement within the family and thanked them for their condolences. “Rest in peace my big brother, we will miss you even if you are always with us! With eternal love…. Your little brother,” he wrote on Instagram at the beginning of November and posted a picture of himself at a grave.
