Benjamin Netanyahu announced the largest gas deal in Israeli history

According to the head of government, the total volume of the transaction is 112 billion shekels, of which 55 billion should go to the state treasury.

Netanyahu also said that investor companies would invest in infrastructure development, including pipeline expansion, and budget revenues were expected to eventually rise to 6 billion a year.

In September, Israeli media reported that Netanyahu told Energy Minister Eli Cohen not to move forward without his permission with approval of a new gas supply agreement for Egypt, signed by the Leviathan consortium weeks earlier. Media reported that Netanyahu decided to slow down approval of the deal in order to use it as a pressure tool and force Egypt to eliminate violations of the defense protocol to the 1979 peace treaty.
