What are the Italian smart cities according to the European Commission

Italy is the fourth country in Europe with the highest number of smart cities, according to the European Commission list. This is highlighted by 1NCE, a multinational Internet of Things company that operates in over 170 countries. The ranking of CE includes 194 cities from 26 countries of the EU (all except Cyprus, which has none), as well as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Serbia and Türkiye.
So, with 13 smart cities, Italy ranks immediately behind Sweden (14 digital cities), Germany (15) and Spain, which leads the ranking with 21 smart cities.

At a national level, the regions of Northern Italy are the most advanced in the development of smart cities, with Alessandria, Bergamo, Bolzano, Brescia, Genoa, Milan, Turin and Trento. In Central Italy there are Florence, Montieri and Pisa, while in the South Naples and Lecce stand out.
Savings in smart cities thanks to IoT

It is important to underline that theIoT (Internet of Things) offers fundamental solutions for the development of smart cities, allowing, for example, savings of up to 40% in public lighting consumption, up to 20% in the energy costs of smart buildings, up to 12% in electricity consumption thanks to smart meters and up to 40% in fuel consumption through optimized route planning of vehicle fleets monitored via IoT, according to 1NCE estimates.

The company thus underlines Italy’s position in the panorama of smart cities, on the occasion of its participation in SCEWC, the largest and most influential fair in the world dedicated tourban innovation.
