YouTube closes two channels that broadcast fake trailers for Avatar, Avengers and Harry Potter

Thanks to artificial intelligence, YouTube channels have been sharing fake trailers for several months, including those for the film Avengers : Doomsdayfrom the next series Harry Potter or even the last Avatar .

Faced with this increasingly frequent phenomenon, the queen platform for video streaming has taken concrete and drastic measures. According to an investigation published by the American media DeadlineYouTube recently shut down two channels, Screen Culture and KH Studio, over accusations of violating spam rules and posting misleading metadata on the platform.

A successful business

These two accounts have, in fact, taken real film sequences on several occasions without the agreement of the production studios and associated them with images generated by the Sora assistant from OpenAI and Veo from Google. With the ambition to create perfect and credible trailers. This illegal practice allowed them to launch a profitable business. The KH Studio channel accumulated, before its deletion, more than 560 million views on the platform while Screen Culture collected more than 1.4 billion.

The two channels in question also made sure to publish several versions of these video extracts to obtain maximum profit. Two repeat offender channels

This is not the first time that these two channels have been the subject of a warning by YouTube. According to information from BFMTV, at the beginning of the year, the American platform demonetized their videos for regulatory violations. She criticized them in particular for not respecting the ban, although written in black and white in the conditions of use, to publish videos created “for the sole purpose of obtaining views”. But also for having created false trailers likely to mislead the viewer.

KH Studio and Screen Culture, however, managed to circumvent these warnings by adding the words “fan trailer” or “parody” in the titles of their videos. They quickly stopped taking this precaution, leading to their permanent closure. Today, it is indicated on these two channels: « This page is not available. Please excuse us for this inconvenience. Try looking for something else. »

Other channels like Teaser Universe or TeaserCon still share similar content on the platform. The situation could even get worse in the coming months after the recent agreement between the Walt Disney Company and OpenAI, which allows ChatGPT and Sora 2 users to freely use 200 characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars for video content.
