The search for HIFK’s sports director is progressing – Ilkka Kortesluoma says

Helsinki IFK’s SM league team has been operating for the second month already without an actual sports director.

The previous sports director Janne Pesonen the departure was announced on November 18, and even before that he had time to be on sick leave for several weeks.

At that time, HIFK announced that it would start the recruitment process for a new sports director.

“In that sense, the matter has progressed, that we have made lists of who we are going to survey. The process is progressing from that side”, CEO of HIFK Ilkka Kortesluoma said on Monday.

“We haven’t made any decisions about who it is.”

According to Kortesluoma, the candidates on the list have not yet been interviewed.

“So far, we have surveyed the lists and inquired about who might be interested. From January onwards, the next steps of the process will begin,” says Kortesluoma.

“It makes sense to do a proper process in peace. As such, we are proceeding exactly according to the planned schedule.”

For now, the duties of HIFK’s sports director are handled by Kortesluoma, the head coach, in addition to his own work Olli Jokinen and above all a stakeholder manager Mika Kortelainen.

“It has gone well, and we have been able to move things forward,” says the CEO.

HIFK is in 13th place in the league table during the Christmas break of the SM league. On Boxing Day, the team heads to Davos, Switzerland to play in the traditional Spengler Cup tournament, which ends on New Year’s Eve.
