Temu orders under 150 euros will have a customs fee in July

Customs says that orders arriving from outside the EU, worth a maximum of 150 euros, will be subject to a fixed customs fee of three euros per batch of goods from July next year. Currently, no customs fee is charged for packages worth less than 150 euros.

Customs specifies that a batch of goods refers to similar goods in the shipment. Even a single item can be counted as a batch of goods from a customs point of view.

“For example, if three gloves and two beanies are ordered for the same shipment, there will be two batches of goods in the shipment. In this case, a fixed duty of six euros will be charged in total,” explains Customs’ communications via email.

In the background, the EU’s customs reform

The customs fee is part of the EU’s customs reform, which affects packages coming from outside the EU. The customs charges have been targeted especially at orders made from Chinese online stores such as Temu and Shein. According to Euronews it was decided in November to remove the duty exemption for orders under 150 euros.

For orders over 150 euros, normal customs fees based on the goods’ customs titles must be paid.

Customs points out that in addition to customs fees, a separate processing fee is also charged. The handling fee is included in the other regulations of the EU customs reform. Its details are expected to be clarified in January-February.

Yle told in October, that according to Customs, 28.2 million shipments from outside the EU were brought to Finland in 2024. This year, the number of packages is estimated to be over 50 million. In the EU, the number of packages was 4.6 billion. 98 percent of these came from China.
