Shock in the gamer world: Vince Zampella, creator of “Call of Duty”, died in a car accident

It was the company Electronic Arts (EA) that announced the death of the video game designer, however the cause of his death was not known.

Today it was reported that Zampella died in an accident that occurred on a highway in the San Gabriel Valley, east of Los Angeles, in the United States. Some videos shown on social networks detail the fatal accident.

Zampella was driving a Ferrari when he came out of a tunnel at high speed, until he crashed at the start of a curve. What some media outlets indicate, citing the California Highway Patrol, is that the vehicle left the road, collided with a concrete barrier and ended up destroyed after the impact.

On the other hand, the DW media details that both the driver and the passenger, who was thrown from the vehicle, died from their injuries. The name of the other victim is not known.

Dedication to video games

The AP agency remembers Zampella’s steps in the video game industry. In 2010 he founded Respawn Entertainment, a subsidiary of EA, and was also CEO of video game developer Infinity Ward, the studio behind the successful “Call of Duty” franchise.

“A friend, colleague, leader and visionary creator, his work helped shape modern interactive entertainment and inspired millions of gamers and developers around the world. His legacy will continue to influence game creation and the connection between gamers for generations,” an EA spokesperson wrote.

Call of Duty became a franchise and has sold more than 500 million games worldwide. The first version appeared in 2003, with a game that recreated World War II.

Zampella didn’t just work on Call of Dutty. He also led the creation of games such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
