Kfar Saba lost its status as a “major city”

Since 2017, the CSB has included in its reviews cities with a population of 100 thousand or more. At the first stage there were 16 of them, in 2023 Herzliya and Hadera were added to them. In 2025, Modiin-Makabim-Reut became one of the major cities, and at the same time Kfar Saba lost this status.

This is the first time that a locality has been removed from the list of major cities. Kfar Saba has practically disappeared from maps of new construction. The last new quarter, Kfar Saba Yaruqa, was built at the beginning of the last decade, after which the city’s population slightly exceeded 100 thousand people, but since then it has practically frozen at this figure, although the country’s population has grown by 3 million people.

After the construction of the largest district, Kfar Saba HaYeruka, in the northwestern part of the city at the beginning of the last decade, the population stagnated at about 100 thousand. In 2019, the city had a population of 101,456, a number that has been slowly declining since then.
