“A very great source of emotions”: for director Danièle Thompson, Christmas is a golden subject

When she started directing in 1999, with “La Bûche”, Danièle Thompson had already written the screenplays for twenty-two feature films, including the legendary “La Grande Vadrouille”, “La Folie des grandeurs”, “Les Aventures de Rabbi Jacob” or “L’As des as” with her father Gérard Oury, “La Boum” with Claude Pinoteau and “La Reine Margot” with Patrice Chéreau.

For this first film, the filmmaker co-wrote with her son Christopher Thompson a dramatic comedy that has become cult, “La Bûche”, or the eventful reunion of three sisters (Sabine Azéma, Emmanuelle Béart and Charlotte Gainsbourg) around their separated parents (Claude Rich and Françoise Fabian). She explains to us why Christmas inspires cinema so much.
