The chief of staff of the Libyan army, Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad, was killed in a plane crash after taking off from the Turkish capital Ankara, the prime minister of Libya’s internationally recognized government said, adding that four other people were also on board.
The Minister of the Interior of Turkey announced that the wreckage of the plane carrying the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army, which disappeared shortly after taking off from Ankara, was found.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said the wreckage was found 74 kilometers (45 miles) from Ankara.
It was reported earlier that contact with the plane flying from Ankara to Tripoli was lost. There were five passengers on the private plane, including the chief of the general staff of the Libyan army.
Turkey’s interior minister said the plane took off at 17:10 GMT and radio contact was lost at 17:52 GMT. The official said that the plane requested an emergency landing in the skies of Ankara’s Haymana district, but no contact was made after that.
