The National Antitrust Commission will review the recent alliance between the airlines Viva Aerobus and Volaris in order to ensure that this commercial union occurs in accordance with the rules, reported President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
He maintained that the association of companies is beneficial for the country. “An analysis has yet to come from the National Antitrust Commission, which will be presented at the time, it will review it, it has to be within the framework of the law. But it is a good thing that investment increases and that Mexican companies in the aeronautics industry grow; it is a very good thing, tourism will increase and there is also more competition with other national and foreign airlines.”
In his conference yesterday at the National Palace he responded to the decision of the two airlines to join forces; The federal president revealed that a few days ago their directors visited her to inform her of the decision.
“Their objective is to invest more. What they want is not only to group together, although they maintain the two brands, but to invest, buy more airplanes, invest in workshops. It is an important investment to expand the capacity of Mexican airlines in our market, mainly towards the United States, Europe and other places,” he stated.
More public investment
On the other hand, he announced that a program of greater public investment will be announced in January, which includes a new participation scheme for private initiative, different from the figure of the so-called public-private associations (PPP). As part of this, he explained, investment in all public works will increase, with government and mixed funds. “A very different scheme from PPPs, which has already been tested on highways, such as the one we inaugurated in Nayarit or the two airport projects in Puerto Escondido and Tepic.”
The investments, he noted, will include the two State companies: Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), as well as in roads and other infrastructure works.
He made it clear that the CFE “finances itself” and since the last six years it has increased the capacity of the Mexican State to generate electricity.
On the other hand, he reported that a report from Pemex will be presented in January, which will detail how the Tula refinery, he noted, “not only produces more gasoline, but the environmental program for the municipality is very advanced, which includes the cleanup of the river and the conversion of the fuel oil plant to gas.”
