Cement industry giant Vicem circuit-breakers trillions of losses

According to information announced at the 2025 summary conference, leaders of Vietnam Cement Corporation said that in 2025 it is estimated to achieve revenue of 28,848 billion VND, an increase of 5.1% compared to last year.

The company’s clinker production output reached 17.725 million tons, exceeding 10% of the whole year plan and increasing by 11.3% compared to 2024. Total cement and clinker consumption output is estimated at 25.87 million tons, an increase of 8.5% and also exceeding the plan.

Vicem recorded a profit (excluding the exchange rate difference at the end of the period) of more than 287.3 billion VND, equivalent to 356% of the whole year plan. Thus, the cement industry giant may have cut off the circuit for 2 consecutive years, losing trillions of billions.

Last year alone, Vicem had a consolidated loss of 1,400 billion VND. In 2023, this corporation’s profit will also be negative at nearly 1,130 billion.

Vicem is an enterprise under the Ministry of Construction, 45 years old. Vicem manages 10 factories across the country with 16 production lines, capacity of 20 million tons of clinker and 27 million tons of cement per year. At a meeting with Vicem earlier this year, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh asked the corporation to immediately adjust its business plan to become profitable. He proposed that Vicem’s executive board innovate leadership and operating methods to improve management and corporate governance efficiency.

At the same time, according to Mr. Tran Hong Minh, the corporation must also apply science and technology, review input stages, and reduce unnecessary parts and procedures to maximize cost savings.

In the period 2026-2030, Vicem expects domestic cement consumption to grow by 10% per year. The company also aspires to capture 28-30% market share of this essential construction product in Vietnam.
