Tragedy in the Mediterranean: 116 dead in a shipwreck off Libya

There is fear of a shipwreck with around 116 people on board in the central Mediterranean. This was stated by Alarm Phone, which a few days ago had launched the alert on a drifting boat whose traces had been lost and on board which there were 117 migrants who left Zuwarah on the evening of 18 December. The only survivor was saved by a Tunisian fisherman. “Against the silence and indifference of the authorities, we demand answers. The families who search for their missing loved ones have the right to the truth”, states the humanitarian organization. They left last Thursday, and were searched for on Monday with Sea Watch’s Seabird aircraft. “Today Alarm_phone confirms the shipwreck, which occurred shortly after departure”, confirms the German NGO.
