Sivert Guttorm Bakken was found dead with a training mask on his face

On Christmas Eve dead Sivert Guttorm Bakkenin new information has become available about the tragedy.

Bakken, 27, who was found dead in his hotel room in Lavazé, Italy, was wearing a training mask on his face, which limits oxygen uptake. The training mask simulates high altitude training.

“The Norwegian Biathlon Union currently has no information about the circumstances related to the purchase and use of this mask,” the union said in a press release, according to public broadcasting company NRK.

“This is a tragic situation with many unsolved questions. Our thoughts are above all with Sivert’s family and close friends, who are now experiencing very difficult times during the holidays,” the general secretary of the union Emilie Nordskar quoth.

Bakken’s autopsy will be performed in the next few days in Italy.
