An IS leader who called himself the “governor of Damascus” was detained in the Syrian capital.

Syrian security forces reported the detention in a Damascus suburb of one of the leaders of the Islamic State terrorist organization, Taha al-Zoubi, whom the group called the “governor of Damascus.”

The operation, according to the Syrian side, was carried out jointly with an international coalition led by the United States.

The head of internal security in Damascus province, General Ahmad al-Dalati, told SANA that al-Zubi (also known as “Abu Umar Tibia”) was detained in the Al-Muadamiya area along with several accomplices.

A number of sources clarify that weapons and, presumably, a suicide belt were seized during the arrest, while there was no public confirmation of the operation by CENTCOM at the time of publication.
