Sad title: 1. FC Köln and Eintracht Frankfurt are riot champions of the Bundesliga

Köln – The newcomer to the Bundesliga is an inglorious riot master! No German football club had to pay as much punishment for the offenses of its fans last season as the former second division club 1. FC Köln. In the first league, Eintracht Frankfurt had to pay the most fines to the DFB. In the 3rd league, second division promoted team Dynamo Dresden paid the heaviest.

The German Football Association (DFB) has sentenced the 56 clubs from the top three leagues to fines totaling a good twelve million euros in the 2024/25 season. The sum is therefore only slightly below that of the previous season, when the clubs had to pay around 12.5 million euros.

The DFB imposed fines of 924,355 euros on riot champions 1. FC Köln for numerous offenses (including pyrotechnics, Bengalos and rockets) committed by fans. The second promoted club, Hamburger SV, was also asked to pay 623,555 euros. This puts HSV in third place in the overall ranking behind Cologne and Frankfurt.

In between lies Eintracht Frankfurt. The Hessians were once again an inglorious penalty croissant in the Bundesliga with 764,600 euros. In the 2023/24 season, the DFB even imposed 918,950 euros in fines on the Champions League participants.

Significant increase in league three

In the 3rd league, Dynamo Dresden took the sad top spot. The newcomer had to shell out 428,460 euros. Striking: With a total of 2,238,025 million euros, a significant increase was recorded in the 3rd league compared to the previous season (around 1.5 million euros). And that despite the fact that there were two clubs, Viktoria Köln and Hannover 96 II, against which no fines were imposed.

The penalties against the 36 professional clubs Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga, however, fell by over one million euros. As in previous years, the majority of judgments were made for pyrotechnics.

Since the clubs are allowed to use part of the penalties imposed by the DFB for violence prevention measures, “only” a good eight million euros ended up in the association’s account. As usual, six million euros were donated to football foundations.
